Laser Hair Removal for Permanent Results
Designed for most different types of skin, laser hair removal at Skinportant is a permanent solution to remove unwanted bodily hair almost anywhere on the body. Unlike more traditional methods of hair removal such as waxing or shaving, Laser hair removal is fast, reliable and is considered to be completely permanent.
But how..?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and Laser Hair Removal are advanced technologies that harness the power of focused light beams to target hair follicles. By absorbing the light energy, the pigment in the hair is effectively damaged, preventing future hair growth. During the treatment, a gentle beam of light is emitted by the IPL or laser device and absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft. This conversion of light energy into heat effectively destroys the hair follicle without causing any harm to the surrounding skin.

Ready to boost your confidence?!
Never had a laser hair removal with us before? You would need to come for a consultation, where we discuss all the elements of your treatment and expalin how you prepare your skin before after your treatment.
Before the actual laser session, you will need to prepare your skin for the treatment. This typically involves shaving the treatment area a day or two in advance to ensure the light targets the hair follicles effectively. It's important to avoid any form of hair removal that removes the hair root, such as waxing or plucking, as it may hinder the laser process.
Once you are prepared, the laser hair removal session can begin. You will be provided with protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the intense pulsed light. We will then gently apply a cooling gel to the treatment area to enhance comfort and improve light transmission. Lynton laser device will be used to emit controlled pulses of light onto the skin, which will be absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicles. This process damages the hair follicles, inhibiting further growth.
After the laser session, you may experience some mild redness or slight swelling in the treated area, which is normal and temporary. We apply a aloe vera soothing gel or recommend a post-treatment cream to alleviate any discomfort. It's crucial to follow the aftercare instructions, which may include avoiding sun exposure, hot baths/showers, and certain skincare products for a few days. Multiple laser sessions may be required to achieve optimal results, as hair grows in cycles and not all follicles are active simultaneously.
Are we more expensive?
Yes, we probably are. We pride ourselves on offering a premium hair removal experience that sets us apart from other salons. While our prices may be higher, it's because we choose to invest in state-of-the-art equipment rather than diverting profits towards personal luxuries like fancy cars. Unlike many salons in Portsmouth using cheap devices such as AW3, we opt for Lynton – an NHS-approved, British-made machine known for delivering exceptional results. At our salon, we prioritise quality over cost, avoiding cheap Chinese machines. We firmly believe in upholding the standard of quality service, and we're dedicated to providing that experience to YOU.
Took us only 4 treatments to achieve this .
Frequently asked questions
IPL or Intense Pulsed Light, hair removal works by sending a special light that targets the color in your hair (melanin), converting it into heat, which messes with the cells that make hair, making it difficult for them to grow new hairs. This process is effective when your hair is actively growing, so multiple sessions are needed over weeks to catch all your hairs in the right phase. The advantage of laser is that it mainly targets dark hair and doesn't harm your skin much, making it suitable for people with lighter skin and darker hair tones.
How is the Treatment carried out?
A layer of chilled gel is applied to the skin to help guide the light. The light guide is placed onto the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is passed over the skin several times before moving onto the neighbouring area, and the process is repeated until the whole area is treated. Each pulse of light treats a large area of skin and so the duration of the treatment is very short. The gel is removed and the skin is moisturised. During treatment, protective eyewear will be provided in the beauty salon.
Am I suitable for the Treatment?
Treatment is suitable for most people, however, the best results are obtained for those with fair skin, and there is less chance of side effects. Please book a consultation before your hair removal online or within the beauty salon.
How does.the Treatment feel?
Treatment is mildly uncomfortable but no anesthesia is required. Many people describe the sensation as similar to the flick of an elastic band.
What should I expect after the Treatment?
Immediately after treatment, the skin may appear red and a warm tingling sensation may be felt. Typically the skin is cooled to ease any discomfort and a calming gel is applied..
What are the side effects?
The treated area can become quite red immediately after treatment but this usually disappears within a couple of hours. Most people experience no other side effects but very rarely a small blister could form or the skin may become temporarily lighter or darker.
How many treatments are necessary?
Depends on your skin condition, but normally 5-6 hair removal treatments.
